That Time I Couldn't Breathe- a DIY

I had thought that the damn Punxsutawney Beaver Groundhog said we were getting an early spring. Where the freak is it at? People are still getting dang blizzards. I vote we shoot that beaver!

A few weeks ago I told y'all that my Daddy and I painted a dresser. Well, there is a story behind the scenes that I am embarrased to share, but I am sharing, cause I keep it real around these parts!

I got in my head that I wanted to paint this dresser and I knew I already had the paint to do it. I just needed some sandpaper and some primer. I read online that you get best results if you use a primer. So I dropped by the hardware store on Friday and got what I needed to paint this booger.

Saturday rolled around and it was freaking cold out. I told myself that the cold was not going to keep me from painting and I started taking the drawers out to paint them first. I sanded them like hell and primed them just like I had read online. It didn't take no time at all to get all the drawers complete.

I went inside to drag the dresser outside. By myself. I used to move furniture around all the time like it was nothing. That was pre-baby and pre-fatasslaziness. Well Zane wanted me to take a break and run around and play with him a while. So I did. We ran, we swang, we played ball, and ran some more. No biggie right? For you maybe.

About an hour of play later, I pulled the dresser onto my front porch and planned to get it up on my back in a way I could carry it the 15 feet over to my picnic table that I do all my outside projects on. This dresser was a little heavy, even with the drawers taken out. Well I was breathing a little harder than normal. I managed to get the dresser about half way and had to put it down. I thought to myself, "What is wrong with me?"

I couldn't catch my breath. I thought "Could this be an asthma attack?" I got some water and sat down to see if I could get calmed down. Twenty minutes went by, I was still gasping for air. I took a hot shower to see if that helped. Nope, still not even helped in the slightest. I was getting scared and anxious all at the same time. So I decided to see a doctor to see what was wrong. It being a Saturday, I had to go to the ER. Ugh! Well 4 hours later, two breathing treatments, and chest xrays it was determined that the brochitis that I had several weeks before that was not completly gone. So between being out in the cold, dust from sanding, and spray painting it kicked my ass! I felt like crap! I was lucky that Zane was staying the night with a friend and that my parents came to my rescue that afternoon as I was in the ER.

The next day I felt better. Much better. The meds and breathing treatments helped but I was afraid to do any spray painting. My sweet Daddy came over that Sunday. I sanded with a mask and he painted the dresser for me. It turned out great! I'm so in love with it! I have it in my guest bedroom and I have been working on getting it put together as a room and not a junk room. It's a slow progression right now. I'll keep you posted for sure!

The color I used is Valspar Gloss Exotic Sea.

  5. Girl, you know we aren't as young as we used to be. Looks like someone is in denial about that though. ;-) Bronchitis can actually take a while to get over and leaves your lungs pretty weak or so I've heard. Yes, we need Spring to stay! Love the color of the dresser!
